The Central Okanagan Sailing Association is proud to offer a large selection of community priced sailing and windsurfing programs for sailors of all ages and abilities. All programs are taught by Sail Canada certified sailing and windsurfing coaches and include the use of our PFD’s!
Listed below is a comprehensive list of our programs and offerings. If you don’t see a program or date that works for you, let us know. We will be happy to custom design a course suitable for you or your children!
Young children are introduced to the water and sailing in a unique setting focusing on fun and safety. Topics include lifejacket and general water safety, and how to balance, sit, and move in a small sailboat. Small and stable Optimist dinghies are used for this course with 2 - 3 students per boat. Participants’ will have the chance to explore the water as they sail and paddle around our protected bay. Additional activities include arts, crafts, and beach play!

Wind Rider participants will learn sailing terminology, knots, and how to sail by means of games and activities both on and off the water. On the first day of lessons, children will be grouped into small teams based on prior sailing experience. Students will sail their own Optimist sailboats, and work towards developing technical sailing skills appropriate for their age and individual ability. The Optimist dinghy is a 7-foot sailboat that is excellent for learning basic, intermediate, and advanced sailing skills. The Optimist is stable and can accommodate a wide range of child sizes and abilities.
Fun is an important part of this course, with age appropriate games and activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, and Hobie Cat sailing!
Retuning students may want to also consider our Learn to Race Course (CANSail Fast), appropriate for ages 8 and up.

Youth will be working towards Sail Canada CANSail 1 or 2. Almost all instruction will be on the water, with youth paired in their very own 14’ FJ sailboat. Sailors will learn the basics of sailing on and off the water, including terminology, water safety, the ability to rig and de-rig the boats independently, and the skill to launch, set sail, and return to the dock. By the end of the program, students will be able to sail around Okanagan Lake safely.
Fun is an important part of this course, with age appropriate games and activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, and Hobie Cat sailing!
Note: CANSail Intermediate students should register for a minimum of 2 weeks of lessons over the summer.

This two week course is a must for students interested in learning advanced sailing skills. CANSail 3 students will learn how to skipper their boats in winds up to 25 km/hr, as well as learning how to sail their boats backwards and start basic racing! CANSail 4 participants will further their technical knowledge and will begin perfecting upwind and downwind speed. Graduates of CANSail 3 and 4 may find themselves poised to become sailing coaches!

This is a great course for any sailor ages 8 – 18, who has taken at least one course from us in the past, including Wind Riders, or any CAN Sail level. Sailors will learn about racing, how to make their boats go faster, and some special sailing techniques that can make sailing a boat even more fun. Students will be grouped by age and skill level based on registrations.

Families are invited to this fun filled weekend sailing course. Students will learn to sail on 14 FJ sailboats. Sailors will follow Sail Canada curriculum as they work to complete CAN Sail 1. By the end of the course students will be able to sail around Okanagan Lake safely with minimal instruction!

Adults of all sailing abilities will have an opportunity to develop basic, intermediate, or advanced sailing skills. Almost all instruction will be taught on the water, with adults paired in their very own 14’ FJ sailboat. By the end of the program, even beginner students will be able to sail around Okanagan Lake safely with minimal supervision!

Adults will be taught the basics of windsurfing on the latest windsurfing technology during this 2 session program. 2 Sessions are scheduled to compensate for the possibility of no wind during one of the nights. Students will learn how to rig and right a board, and how to sail in light to moderate conditions. Board balance, rig and sail functions, and sailing in all directions will be a major focus during the week. By the end of the course students will be ready to sail on their own independent of instruction!

Students will learn how to rig and right a board, and how to sail in light to moderate conditions. Board balance, rig and sail functions, and sailing in all directions will be a major focus during the week. Students will experience the high speed fun of Catamaran sailing. Using new Hobie Cat sailboats, participants will learn how to sail these boats to speeds in excess of 30km/hr! Warning: you may get wet!

We are proud to offer sailing for people with disabilities. Using specially designed Access Dinghy sailboats, people with disabilities can enjoy the freedom and independence that ABLE sail offers. Sailors of any age can participate in any of our regular youth or adult sailing lessons while using one of our ABLE Sail sailboats.

Looking for a different type of Birthday or Staff Party? Enjoy an afternoon sailing or windsurfing at our club, where we’ll create a specialized course to meet your groups needs. In addition to supplying everything you need to go sailing, all group sessions will have access to our BBQ and kitchen facilities!
