COSA’s Race Team is a great opportunity for youth to learn about the competitive aspects of sailing while participating on a team where having fun is the number one goal. While the Race Team competes at local, provincial, and national events, our main focus is Sailing for Life. A majority of our former race team members continue to sail, while some have even participated at the highest levels as members of the Canadian National Sailing Team. COSA racers have earned medals at every BC Summer Games in the past two decades; while dozens of our team members have gone on to become certified sailing coaches at COSA!
Race Team members sail Lasers, Radials, 4.7’s, Optimists, 420’s, and Hobie Cat’s.
Youth interested in joining the Race Team should have completed at least one Learn to Sail program. There is no minimum age to join the Race Team, although we do ask that sailors interested in being team members participate in at least one week of lessons prior to joining the team. We regularly have youth as young as 5 and 6 sailing with the COSA Race Team!

In addition to recognizing youth members who are incredible volunteers (see Member Awards), COSA also acknowledges the training efforts demonstrated by our youngest racers. Award categories include Most Improved and Top Sailor.
